From What Age Can Children Ride the Funslope?

Even children from around 4-5 years old can experience the Funslope when accompanied by parents or after a few ski lessons. It is safely designed and suitable for beginners.

Are there Opportunities for Winter Adventures off the Ski Slopes?

Yes! In the Grossarltal, you can go snowshoeing, ski touring, and take horse-drawn sleigh rides. Romantic torchlight hikes are also possible in the valley – ideal for anyone who wants to experience the quiet winter landscape intensely.

Why is the Großarltal a Popular Destination for Skiers?

The Großarltal impresses with perfectly groomed, wide slopes, modern lifts, and a magnificent panoramic location in the Hohe Tauern. It is part of Ski amadé – one of Europe’s largest ski alliances.

What Makes Grossarltal Special for Families in Winter?

Grossarltal offers a particularly family-friendly ski area with wide slopes, practice hills, and a separate children’s area. The local ski schools offer professional courses for all ages. There are also toboggan runs, winter hiking trails, and special family activities such as the “Ski amadé Mini’s Week” with discounted children’s offers.

What Facilities are Available Directly at the Valley Station?

Ski rental, storage, ski schools, restaurants, and parking are located directly at the lift station. A ski bus conveniently takes you from many hotels to the gondola.

Are there Special Ski Pass Offers for Families?

What is the “Sky Route” and who is it Suitable for?

The Sky Route is a breathtaking hike that leads from the mountain station of the Panoramabahn via Kreuzkogel and Fulseck to the Kieserlbahn. Along the way, you’ll discover panoramic viewing platforms, the idyllic Himmelreichsee, and spectacular nature experiences. The route is suitable for experienced hikers, but also offers sections that are manageable for families with children.

Are there Special Combi-Tickets or Discounts for Hikers?

Yes! There is the Hiking Shuttle Day Ticket, which is valid for the Panoramabahn Großarltal, the Kieserlbahn, and the Gipfelbahn Fulseck. With this ticket, you can use multiple lifts in one day and combine various hikes. Additionally, guests with the Großarltal Guest Card receive discounts on regular ticket prices.

What is there for Young Children to Experience?

For our youngest guests, we recommend two particularly family-friendly hikes:

Spiegelsee Hike
This leads over the mountain into the Gastein Valley. Along the way, there are numerous playgrounds and rest stops.

Sensory Path Hike
Slightly downhill and easy to manage even with small children. Along the Sensory Path, you will find:

  • Farm animals
  • a small primeval forest
  • and many exciting interactive stations for hands-on fun and discovery.

Which Special Hiking Trails are Suitable for Families with Small Children?

For families with small children, the Grossarltal offers the stroller-friendly high-altitude trail to Spiegelsee, which is characterized by its easy accessibility. There is also the Gamssteig, an exciting themed trail where children can playfully discover nature.

What else to Consider when Using Strollers?

You are in alpine terrain – this means:

  • The paths are mostly uphill or downhill.
  • Uphill, transporting a stroller requires considerable physical effort, especially with heavy models.
  • Downhill, gravity pulls the stroller strongly downwards.

We therefore recommend:

  • Lightweight strollers with brakes
  • All-terrain models, if possible.

Which Hiking Trails Start Directly at the Mountain Station of the Panoramabahn?

Many popular hikes start from the mountain station – e.g., to the Gehwolfalm, to the Laireiteralm, to the Spiegelsee, or up the Kreuzkogel. These routes are well-signposted and vary in length and difficulty.

What Safety Measures are in Place During Bad Weather?

If it rains in the morning, the cable car operation day will be canceled without replacement. It is recommended to check the current operating hours and weather conditions in advance to avoid disappointment.

Are there Guided Hikes or Themed Tours?

Yes! In summer, guided hikes are regularly offered – such as sunrise tours, herb hikes, or alpine pasture adventure routes. These tours provide additional information about the nature, culture, and mountain world in the Grossarltal.
